Our Educational Programs

We seek to engage and educate our Lowcountry community with a variety of programming and events that promote the legacy of horticulture throughout
the Lowcountry of South Carolina.

  • CHS Hort Lecture Series

Our signature CHS Hort Lecture Series, sponsored by Bartlett Tree Experts, welcomes horticultural experts from all over the country to share their experiences and expertise with the people of the South Carolina Lowcountry. Our lectures are held at the historic Queen Street Playhouse in downtown Charleston, SC.

  • Workshop Series

Learn from the Lowcountry’s most esteemed garden experts at our in-person and virtual educational workshops, garden studies and docent training courses. Our workshops are designed to appeal to all levels of garden enthusiasts!

  • Garden Tours

From our popular annual Fall Garden Tour and Behind the Garden Gate Spoleto USA events to more curated private tours, CHS Hort offers informative, docent led horticultural excursions throughout the year.

  • Special Events

Our horticultural and membership-centric events throughout the year include the annual Plantasia Garden Festival, the Holiday Greens Sale, our CHS Hort Oyster Roast and Yeamans Hall lecture luncheon along with many more opportunities to meet and network with other avid gardeners!

  • Docent Training Course

Our intensive four week Docent Training Course is taught by trusted Charleston gardening and garden history experts in a classroom environment focused on plant identification, garden history and general garden knowledge. Graduates of this prestigious program become Certified CHS Hort Garden Docents.

  • Digging Deeper Course

Our new educational program, the mission of the Digging Deeper course is to discuss current gardening initiatives and bring awareness to the gardening mandates that are asking us to rethink previous truths about the way we garden. Our ‘backyards’ are the first line of defense in creating an environment that is supportive of the planet.
